Initial leakage under pit and fissure sealants assessed by neutron activation.

چکیده
Recently, a great deal of effort has been concentrated in the area of preventive dentistry. Among the many products to evolve from this effort are materials designed to obtund and to seal occlusal pits and fissures from the ingress of saliva and food particles. Topical and systemic fluoride treatments have proven effective in the reduction of smooth surface caries, but have shown little or no effect on pit and fissure surfaces.' On the other hand, autopolymerizing sealant materials gain retention from the pits and fissures into which they are placed, and thus, with proper sealing, are expected to isolate such areas of viable enamel from a cariogenic environment.2-4 The objective of this study was to examine the sealing capabilities of three commercially produced pit and fissure sealants with the use of a quantitative technique (neutron activation) and appropriate statistical analysis.

Effect of chlorhexidine solution on microleakage of pit and fissure sealants in permanent teeth with and without the use of fifth- and sixth-generation adhesive systems
Introduction: Due to concerns about histological caries and recurrent caries after the use of sealants, adhesive systems containing fluoride and antibacterial agents have been proposed. The aim of this study was to evaluate the microleakage of sealants after the use of antibacterial chlorhexidine solution on etched enamel with and without the use of fifth- and sixth-generation adhesive systems....

Abstract Background and Aim: Considering that 67 to 90 percent of dental caries in the age of 5 to 17are related to occlusal surface on molars, the use of fissure sealant has been reported as effective in reducing caries. The aim of this study was to assess the clinical effectiveness of fissure sealants placed on permanent first molars between 2016 and 2018 in pediatric department of Dental Facu...
متن کاملEvaluation of the Effects of Enameloplasty and Air Abrasion on Sealant Micro-Leakage
OBJECTIVE Micro-leakage, one of the major reasons for recurrent decays, may lead to uncontrollable flow of liquids, pulp inflammation and peri-apical pathology. The purpose of this in vitro study was to evaluate micro-leakage of pit and fissure sealants after using three different pit and fissure preparation techniques: 1) acid etching, 2) fissure enameloplasty and acid etching, and 3) air abra...

PURPOSE The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of material characteristics, preparation techniques, and fissure morphology on the microleakage and penetrability of pit and fissure sealants. METHODS Sealants used in the study included: (1) Aegis; (2) Conseal f; (3) Admira Seal; (4) Triage; and (5) Delton Opaque. A total of 100 extracted permanent molars were randomly assigned to ...
متن کاملIn Vitro Comparison of Microleakage of Two Materials Used as Pit and Fissure Sealants
BACKGROUND AND AIMS Marginal seal of the material is extremely important in fissure sealant therapy. The aim of this study was to investigate microleakage of flowable composite resins and conventional fissure sealants with or without dentin bonding agent. MATERIALS AND METHODS The occlusal surface of 60 intact extracted human premolars, divided into four groups, were cleaned with pumice/slurr...
